Should You Buy a Wireless Baby Monitor?

If you’ve been shopping for baby monitors, you’ve probably noticed that there are wired monitors and wireless monitors.  What you may not know is which one you should really purchase.  Well, below you can see some of the advantages and disadvantages of using a wireless baby monitor, so you can decide which option will be best for you.

First of all, a wireless baby monitor gives you a lot more flexibility when mounting the camera.  Since you don’t have to worry about a cord, you can place the camera anywhere that will give you a good view of your baby.  This means that you won’t have to move you’re the entire room around just to accommodate your baby monitor.

Another great reason to buy a wireless baby monitor is that you can easily move it around from room to room.  If you want your baby to take a nap in a different room, you can move it easily to the other room without having to worry about where to plug it in. Then you can move it back when your baby goes back into their room.  This same benefit applies to traveling.  A wireless baby monitor is much easier to take with you when you travel with your baby.

Now these are all of the advantages, but there are some disadvantages as well.  First of all, a wireless baby monitor can cause interference with other wireless devices like your wireless network, printer and more in your home, and those same devices can cause problems with your baby monitor as well.  So, if you have several wireless devices, this may not be the best option for you.

Another disadvantage of using a wireless baby monitor over a traditional wired monitor is that they usually don’t get as good of a range.  So, you will need to keep the handset closer to avoid going out of range, giving you less freedom to move around your home with the monitor.

The last problem is the cost.  A wireless baby monitor will cost you more than a wired monitor, even if it is the same quality and offers the same features.  Now that you know all of the advantages and disadvantages, you may need to really consider if the extra cost and other problems with the wireless baby monitor are worth the benefit of being able to move the camera anywhere you want.
